There is a very old belief about Bhimtal that during the time of Mahabharata, Bhima visited the banks of this lake and also visited the temple of Lord Shiva. This Shiva temple is known as Bhimeshwar Mahadev.

A crowd of devotees is still seen in this temple. The temple also has idols of Lord Shiva as well as Shani Dev and Bajrang Bali.

Which is better Nainital or Bhimtal

Is Bhimtal lake a natural lake

As I already told you, once the ancient Lord Bheem came here and started digging this place and then water started coming out of the land here. And this took the place of the lake. And it maybe can happen because of the size of the lake it is said to be called Bhimtal. I’m not sure about both but, peoples said the same thing whenever we ask them.

But we may call the Bhimtal lake as a natural lake. This lake has a small island in it where you can go with the help of boats. The island is a very beautiful place and it is a famous picnic spot of Bhimtal. The island has the best restaurants here.

If you watched the movie Batti Gul Meter Chalu and noticed the lake scene in ‘Dekhte Dekhte’ song then you can see the Island and Bhimtal Lake in that.

Devotional visit to temples

Here are some temples to visit in Bhimtal for devotional purposes. Here is Bhimeshwar Shiv temple which is just the edge of the Bhimtal dam locally known as ‘Danth’. This shiv temple has a great formation at that time but later it was renovated. Today this temple looks like the image I have attached below.

The second temple is Maa Kachula Devi temple of Bhimtal, which is on the bank of the lake. Kachula Devi is a local goddess who protects the boatmen.

Hanuman Garhi temple which is in between of Naukuchiyatal and Bhimtal which is only 5 km from Bhimtal. Here you will find 52 feet Hanuman Ji’s statue. This is like a little cave.

How to reach Bhimtal

Want to know how to reach Bhimtal? If you’re in Haldwani and then want to reach Bhimtal than go to the Bus Station and get in the Bhimtal bus or you can take a cab from there to reach Bhimtal. And If you’re at Nainital then take a bus or a cab from there.

If you’re in your personal vehicle then you should reach first Bhowali and then you have to take right to the Bhimtal road. Keep going to the main road until you didn’t reach your destination. I have also written an article on how to reach Nainital From Haldwani or Kathgodam.
